Although a bedroom might be small in dimension, it does not have to feel small or cluttered. The furnishings in a bedroom may be arranged to maximize the amount of space available, and accessories and a color palette
may be chosen that lend an uncluttered feel to the space. For example, an individual may try placing the bed along one wall, rather than in the center of the room. With more unbroken space within the room, the occupants of the room are allowed to have greater freedom of movement. Similarly, placing an oversized-mirrors within the bedroom will create the illusion of having more space. It is also adept at reflecting the natural light that enters the room through the windows, allowing the room to appear larger in dimensions.
Light colors or earth tones are ideal color palettes for decorating a small bedroom. The color palette suggests a feeling of airiness within an environment. These color choices may also be used in the drapery and upholstery of the room. If earth tones are used within the room, it may also suggest the illusion of “bringing the outdoors inside”. Another method of achieving this sensation is to hang live plants from the ceiling of the bedroom. This secondary focal point draws a viewer’s eyes upwards toward the ceiling. Because the entire dimensions of the room are being utilized, the whole psychological feeling of the room changes. It is also imperative for an individual to ensure that the draperies that are used in their bedroom may be adjusted to allow in outdoor light. An absence of natural light can allow a small bedroom to appear dark or oppressive.
To maintain the appearance of a larger bedroom, it is necessary for the furnishings of the bedroom to remain slim and compact in size. If storage becomes an issue, then an individual may wish to store items underneath their bed. Also, the use of wallpaper should be avoided in a small bedroom. Loud colors or busy prints can allow a small bedroom to feel too cluttered or busy. In a similar fashion, the artwork in a small bedroom should be kept to a minimum, and it should be scaled to accommodate the size of the bedroom. Over-Sized Artwork will only draw attention to the small dimensions of the bedroom, and too many small pieces of artwork allow the room to assume the same effects as wallpaper. Employing these techniques will allow an individual to achieve the feeling of spaciousness within their bedroom.
